The North Valley Arts Council supports arts
and culture for the citizens in the Greater Grand Forks area through
advocacy, service, and education. We work to meet the following
goals by administering the projects listed below.
Goal 1: Provide services that support the arts
in Greater Grand Forks
Need 1a: A central source of arts and cultural information
Strategy 1a: Be an arts information resource for arts providers,
business and government leaders, and residents of Greater Grand
Forks
1.1. Produce bi-monthly e-mail calendars of events
1.2. Produce quarterly newsletter and calendar of events
1.3. Be a resource to regional artists
1.4. Develop website as a resource for arts and cultural information
1.5. Promote website as an information resource
1.6. Create on-line arts calendars – one accessible to the
public, the other a back-end calendar for use by arts providers
for event scheduling
Need 1b: Professional development opportunities
for arts providers
Strategy 1b: Provide training opportunities that will help arts
providers develop career skills
1.7. Provide technical assistance and capacity-building services
for arts providers
1.8. Provide professional development seminars and workshops for
nonprofit professionals
Need 1c: Increased awareness of arts and
culture in Greater Grand Forks
Strategy 1c: Provide materials and coordinate events that draw attention
to the arts
1.9. Coordinate Arts in Action at Grand Cities Art Fest
1.10. Encourage non-arts organizations to use local arts resources
1.11. Provide networking opportunities for arts providers and local
leaders

1.12. Administer re-grant program
1.13. Explore leveraging City of Grand Forks grant dollars with
other grants

Strategy 2a: Increase awareness of the value of arts education
2.1. Promote the arts as a tool for teaching
2.2. Partner with other organizations to enhance and promote arts
educational opportunities
2.3. Serve as source of information on arts programs for students
Goal 3: Advocate for the arts
Need 3a: Resource for arts advocacy information
Strategy 3a: Inform the Greater Grand Forks community of arts advocacy
issues
3.1. Work with local leaders to promote the arts
3.2. Keep NoVAC’s members informed of arts advocacy issues

of contact for arts-related information
Need 4a: Visible and accessible arts and cultural resource
Strategy 4a: Increase visibility of NoVAC and arts of arts community
